British Airways have beefed up their UK to South Africa flights: Here are the new additions, and the return of some old favourites.
The clocks have officially been put back an hour in Britain, which means the islanders will soon be looking for the perfect “winter sun” getaway. Step forward British Airways (BA), who have unveiled their largest ever schedule for UK to South Africa flights.
Where BA fly to in South Africa
The airline has unveiled a brand new, four-weekly return route from London to Johannesburg, whereas another flight has been added from the British capital to Durban, which will operate three times a week.
Cape Town is also feeling the love, as BA bring back the double-daily flight from Heathrow to the Mother City. London Gatwick Airport will provide flights to CPT three times a week, too.
Sue Petrie is the British Airways commercial manager for Southern Africa. She confirmed the news to us, and explained that there will now be 38 UK to South Africa flights (including return travel) in total:
“In total we’ll be operating our largest schedule ever between the UK and South Africa; 38 flights a week to three destinations using Boeing 747, Boeing 777, Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 aircraft.”
New British Airways flights from the UK to South Africa:
The additional Johannesburg flights will depart London Heathrow at 16:20 in the afternoon, arriving at OR Tambo at 05:40 the following morning. The return flight will leave Johannesburg at 07:40 in the morning, landing at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 at 17:50 that evening.
Three flights a week between King Shaka and London, beginning on Monday 29 October.
There will be two flights a day between Cape Town and London Heathrow, with three flights a week between Cape Town and London Gatwick increasing the schedule.
What has improved on these flights?
The interiors of the Boeing fleets are set for a major makeover, whereas the access to WiFi on each plane will improve across the board, too. Furthermore, expanded food menus have been introduced, providing more quantity and quality in the long-haul economy cabin, as well as snack options throughout the flight.
